1) Can you describe what GearHeadz is in
your own words?
GearHeadz is an old school/new school approach to the collectable Hot
Rod with a twist. The twist, of course, is they are themed. In other
words, if you are an avid golfer, you may warm up to the green machine
with yellow scallops known as “Fairway 2 Heaven”, complete with golf
bags, 12 bolt posi-rear, and an 18-hole whip antenna flag. Let’s say
you are a bit Goth in your ways and like the black parade of gruesome
in your style - you could easily smolder and buckle a little tar with
“Bram’s Stroker” . . . a blown big block rocket with phat Goodfear tires
and an I-V drip of nitrous. As we say in the GearHeadz business, “Old
School . . . New School . . . Its all Kool!”
2) When did you come up with the idea for GearHeadz? How long ago?
Inspirationally, the idea came years ago, but I never had the opportunity
to let it blossom into a real project until I was approached by King
Features’ Ita Golzman. It all started when I was a young girl with a
love of older cars from the 30s to the 50s. There were some crazy Hotrod
builders back in “the day” and chopping and painting cars was a thing
of beauty and mastery. Of course, it takes a special breed to recognize
and appreciate this. That breed I speak of is back tenfold and “old school
hot rodding” is alive and well . . . maybe more then ever. So what I
have done is wrenched-in a touch of yesterday, a splash of today, and
a mix of the future and turned out GearHeadz . . . a fresh approach to
yesterday’s Hotrod. The name is credited to my other half. GearHeadz:
It says it all!
3) What licensing categories do you see as a good fit for GearHeadz?
Everything from collectable cars, coffee mugs, t-shirts, jackets, posters,
tin signs, models, remote control cars, toys, playing cards, bubble gum
cards. The list is endless. Endless!
5) What inspires you to create all your different designs?
I look at each GearHeadz collectable as a challenge. The challenge lies
solely on the fact that each car needs to appeal to a wide spectrum of
people, first and foremost, to the avid Hotrod fan. Reeking of “cool”
is an absolute must! The theming comes next. To entice with spice, I
look at the most popular themes – Sports, Careers, Hobbies, Movies, Music,
etc. The trick is to integrate the two while being style-consistent with
the others. If you come up with a slick packaged “ride” with a sure-shot
theme . . . you have just reached into yesterday and brought back a collectable
that is sure to be a future winner. |
